APS Emerging Technologies Focus Group

      I am a pharmacist and a   Lecturer/Assistant Professor in Pharmaceutics at King’s College London . Before my current position, I held positions at University College London (UCL) as an Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council  (EPSRC) postdoctoral researcher and at the European Medicines Agency (EMA) as a seconded Quality National Expert.   I am the first graduate of the University of East Anglia School of Pharmacy to be awarded a PhD and was the 2018 recipient of the  Outstanding Woman in STEM Precious Award .   I lead my research group ' The Raimi-Abraham Group '. The core pillars of my research are Ageing and Global Health.       I am a student representative on the APS Emerging technologies focus group. I am currently beginning my third year of studies in my PhD at Queen’s University Belfast with my main interest being in additive manufacturing. My interest in the field of 3D printing began during my undergraduate degree in Pharmaceutical Science, where I was able to undergo a year long research project in the area of Fused Deposition Modelling for fabrication of drug eluding catheters. This gave me a great insight into research culture and the area of 3D Printing. I then applied for a PhD position within Queens University due to my desire to continue in the area of research and additive manufacturing. Currently my research is focusing on the use of resin based 3D printing for transdermal drug delivery devices.   Atheer is the APS Emerging Technologies Focus Group’s Post-doc representative. Atheer received her Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy from Applied Science University in Jordan. She then pursued an MSc in Pharmaceutics at UCL School of Pharmacy, University College of London, where her research was aimed at exploring the potential of 3D printing for the formulation of abuse-deterrent and alcohol-resistant formulations. Earlier this year, she completed a PhD in Pharmaceutics at the same institution where her research was focused on fabrication of novel, bespoke pharmaceutical dosage forms using 3D printing.  Currently, Atheer is working as a Research Fellow at UCL School of Pharmacy as part of the Interreg 2 Seas Mers Zeeën project for site-specific drug delivery, looking into using 3D printing to improve colonic drug delivery.  She is one of youngest and leading researchers on the 3D printing of pharmaceuticals.
