Workshop & Symposium

The focus group will contribute to various international conferences including collaborating with other Societies involved in the topics covered by our FG.

Annual Meetings

  • The FG will organise an annual 1-2 days (virtual or face-to-face) Workshop & Symposium with talks covering the different Emerging Technologies in the field of drug delivery, medical devices, and implants.
  • The FG will also organise a dedicated session in the APS annual meeting.
  • The FG is open for suggestions from APS members wishing to organise events (e.g., workshops, seminars) under the APS FG logo on our hot topic areas in emerging technologies (e.g., Additive Manufacturing, Microfluidics, BioMEMS), as these are the key areas of interested at the current time.

Get to know Professor Sheng Qi

  Professor of Pharmaceutical Material Science and Technology at the School of Pharmacy of the University of East Anglia. Prof. Qi’s lab has great interests in pharmaceutical material sciences and processing. By working with industrial partners as well as cross-discipline collaborators, her group is aiming to contribute to the interdisciplinary research area of enhancing drug absorption via tailoring the physical chemistry of drug formulations. Get to know Dr Atheer Awad

  Atheer is the APS Emerging Technologies Focus Group’s Post-doc representative. Atheer received her Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy from Applied Science University in Jordan. She then pursued an MSc in Pharmaceutics at UCL School of Pharmacy, University College of London, where her research was aimed at exploring the potential of 3D printing for the formulation of abuse-deterrent and alcohol-resistant formulations. Earlier this year, she completed a PhD in Pharmaceutics at the same institution where her research was focused on fabrication of novel, bespoke pharmaceutical dosage forms using 3D printing.  Currently, Atheer is working as a Research Fellow at UCL School of Pharmacy as part of the Interreg 2 Seas Mers Zeeën project for site-specific drug delivery, looking into using 3D printing to improve colonic drug delivery.  She is one of youngest and leading researchers on the 3D printing of pharmaceuticals. Get to Know Dr Bahijja Raimi-Abraham

      I am a pharmacist and a   Lecturer/Assistant Professor in Pharmaceutics at King’s College London . Before my current position, I held positions at University College London (UCL) as an Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council  (EPSRC) postdoctoral researcher and at the European Medicines Agency (EMA) as a seconded Quality National Expert.   I am the first graduate of the University of East Anglia School of Pharmacy to be awarded a PhD and was the 2018 recipient of the  Outstanding Woman in STEM Precious Award .   I lead my research group ' The Raimi-Abraham Group '. The core pillars of my research are Ageing and Global Health.
