Get To Know Dr Dimitrios Lamprou

My name is Dimitrios Lamprou (Ph.D. MBA) and I am the first Chair (and founder) of the Emerging Technologies Focus Group, which established in March 2021, with the aim to bring together scientists interested in the rapidly growing field of Emerging Technologies for Drug Delivery and Medical Implants, and bridging the gap between industry and academia in this exciting and hot field. From, the beginning of my career, and before that as a student, I always had a strong interested in Emerging Technologies and Medical Implants, and finally now with this APS Focus Group, we all have a “home” to bring all these Emerging Technologies under one roof, support each other, share experiences, and together work towards the development of drug delivery systems and medical devices that were not able to be produced a few years ago.

I am currently a Reader in Pharmaceutical Engineering and Programme Director at MSc Industrial Pharmaceutics at the School of Pharmacy in Queen's University Belfast (UK), with an international reputation in Emerging Technologies for Drug Delivery Systems and Medical Devices & Implants. Author of over 100 peer-reviewed publications, have over 250 conference abstracts, and have given over 100 Invited Talks in institutions and conferences across the world. My research and academic leadership have been recognised in a range of awards, including the Royal Pharmaceutical Society Science Award and the Scottish Universities Life Sciences Alliance Leaders Scheme Award.

I am the Chair at United Kingdom and Ireland Controlled Release Society (UKICRS), Chair (Founder) of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences (APS) Emerging Technologies Focus Group, Member of the British Standards Institute (BSI) AMT/8 committee for Additive Manufacturing, Editor for Heliyon (Pharmaceutical Science, Pharmacology and Toxicology Section), Associate Editor at Frontiers in Medical Technology (Nano-Based Drug Delivery Section), Editor for Topical Collection in Pharmaceutics (3D Printing and Bioprinting Applications in Pharmaceutics), Guest Editor for 17 Special Issues in International Refereed Journals and Editorial Board Member for 3 Refereed Journals. I also have a number of important University & School roles, most noticeably in the arena of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI).
